I agree. We need to produce worth while content instead of worrying about how to stop piracy. If you produce good stuff, people will buy.

Funny, Neal and I were having almost the exact same conversation earlier. There are a lot of things to think about. Just as important as preparing for them, is not obsessing over them. I need to learn that.

It's always good to find somebody you trust and is business savvy.
The most important thing is to love what you are doing. When one begins to focus on the "business" aspect you might detract from the passion. Although you can call it "marketing", remember that plenty of items and ideas were "branded" before the marketing suits got involved. That's neither good nor bad.
Whatever you do... create a business, write for profit, rob banks or even try to pet a stray dog, it all involves risks. The passion is what gets oneself through it.

I agree. This is pretty much what I've taken from it as well.

I think we'll need to see what happens in the future, though. Maybe piracy will be a huge problem with ebooks down the road. My guess is it won't hurt us too badly.

[...] Last time, I shared part of some background I wrote for a horror/survival story I’ve been slowly working on. The whole thing stemmed from a attempt to do a new take on vampires for the urban fantasy I’m developing. I think you can see that in the snippet I showed you, but it ended up so different from vampires, that I couldn’t use it for what I wanted to! [...]
